Press Conference Announcing $4 Million in State Funding Secured For McCosker Creek Restoration and Public Access Project By Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan
On Monday, October 21st, Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda) and East Bay Regional Park representatives will gather to announce $4 million in state funding to East Bay Regional Park to address the McCosker Creek Restoration and Public Access Project at Sibley Volcanic Regional Park. The project will restore over 3,000 feet of creek habitat in the upper San Leandro watershed, including daylighting 770 feet of currently culverted creek. The current condition of the creek is in tremendous need of restoration; giant holes have opened up over a series of failing culvert, which covers the historic creek. The restoration project will reestablish freshwater creek habitat for rainbow trout and provide riparian habitat for numerous protected special status species.
Planned public access improvements include parking, bathrooms, water fountains, trails, group camp site, and interpretive signage for environmental education.
