Freshman legislator receives signatures on her first 3 bills on the Governor’s desk, which address deadly food allergens, gun safety and criminal justice reform

Sacramento, CA — Governor Newsom has signed three pieces of legislation authored by Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (AD16 D-Orinda) – marking her first legislative victories since joining the legislature earlier this year.

Sacramento, CA –Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda) passed the first two bills of her freshman legislative session out of the Assembly unanimously. These bills focus on gun safety and expanding protections for human trafficking victims.

“I’m thrilled to have such overwhelming support from my colleagues on my very first bills heard on the Assembly Floor. California is one step closer to giving much needed protections to human trafficking victims and to closing significant loopholes in the current practice on how firearms are transferred” said Bauer- Kahan.

The California Assembly Select Committee on Women’s Reproductive Health, a newly formed committee, held an investigative hearing in recent weeks to discuss the effects and outcome of the Title X “gag rule” by the Trump administration, that prohibits participants from referring patients to abortion providers.

On June 26, Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan (AD16 D-Orinda), held a press conference at Camp Arroyo in Livermore and stood with food allergy safety proponents to call attention to the growing deadly epidemic of food allergies and to urge passage of AB 1532, a bill which seeks to limit deadly allergen contaminations in restaurants and camps.

A packed house of attendees from the Lamorinda area came to hear what State Sen. Steve Glazer's and Assembly Member Rebecca Bauer-Kahan's agendas were for California - and more specifically for Contra Costa County - at a Joint Legislative Town Hall hosted Feb. 28 by Campolindo High School in Moraga.
Glazer was a city council member and three-time mayor of Orinda. As senator for the 7th District, he serves Contra Costa and Alameda counties, which include 20 cities.

Sacramento – Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda) successfully passed her 2 first bills out of committee last week, a notable milestone in her first legislative session, with broad bipartisan support. AB 1735 and 807 passed unanimously out of the Judiciary and Human Services committees respectively.

On June 27, 2019 at the Town Council meeting, Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan shared information on the bills that she has been working on which include nine bills that have made it to the Senate. These bills focus on protecting children, victims of human trafficking, individuals with food allergies, the environment, reducing costs in the criminal justice system, and prioritizing transportation projects and ensuring they are affordable.
