Readout of White House Meeting with State Legislative Leaders on Reproductive Rights

Today, White House Gender Policy Council Director Jennifer Klein and White House Intergovernmental Affairs Director Julie Chavez Rodriguez chaired a meeting with state legislative leaders on protecting access to reproductive health care. This important discussion follows the passage of proactive reproductive rights measures in at least 10 states so far in the 2022 legislative session, including in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington.

Brook Street Park Dedicated Following Renovations

LAMORINDA, CA — Lafayette's Brook Street Park looked more like Brook Street Airport on Monday.

The city on Monday reopened the newly-renovated park, with Assembly member Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, D-Orinda, Lafayette Mayor Teresa Gerringer and members of the Lafayette Parks, Trails and Recreation Commission attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The celebration of the cozy community park had an airport theme. Attendees got pretzels and "Lafayette Airlines" pins.

New Assembly bill would expand hate crimes law, equalize penalties

Two Jewish members of the state Assembly representing the Bay Area, Rebecca Bauer-Kahan and Marc Levine, have introduced legislation that would change hate crime laws by meting out the same punishment for using different “terror symbols,” such as swastikas, nooses and burning crosses.

New bill further combats illegal dumping

Assembly Bill 2374, legislation to help combat illegal dumping across California, was introduced by state Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda) and sponsored by Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis. The bill increases the fines for individuals and businesses who are illegally dumping commercial quantities of waste.

Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan Introduces AB 2146 Bill To Ban Non-Agricultural Pesticides

Alameda County — Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, whose district includes the Tri-Valley, introduced legislation Feb.15, that would ban non-agricultural use of five pesticides that scientists and environmentalists believe kill bees, butterflies and birds.

Bauer-Kahan’s bill would end the use of neonicotinoid pesticides on lawns, gardens and golf courses, but continue to allow them at agricultural sites.

Legislation to Regulate Manipulative Gun Advertisements Targeting Children Introduced

Sacramento, CA – At a press conference Friday in San Diego, Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda), joined Governor Gavin Newsom, Attorney General Rob Bonta and others in announcing the introduction of AB 2571.  AB 2571 seeks to restrict the malicious and manipulative firearms marketing geared towards children and youth.  This bill comes at a time where California has experienced a collision of two major public health crises over the past years: COVID-19 and gun violence.

Contra Costa leaders introduce bill in response to illegal dumping

CONTRA COSTA, Calif. (KRON) – Contra Costa County leaders introduced a bill on Thursday in response to the illegal dumping plaguing communities.

“The illegal dumping of trash, furniture, mattresses, appliances, and toxic materials is out of control in both our rural and urban areas – it isn’t just unsightly, it is putting the health of our communities and environment at risk,” said Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan. “Every Californian deserves the right to live in clean, garbage-free neighborhoods.”
